It is the fundamental human right of every individual to have access to information. Knowledge is the foundation of
power, according to the famous French philosopher Michel Foucault, and information is the building block of
knowledge. Knowledge empowers individuals to thrive in today's fast-paced society. Therefore, the administration has
an obligation to keep the people informed about the day-to-day operations of the government. If there is a way to
make information freely available and increase people's involvement in government, we can progress from excellent
governance to governance.
The Right to Information Act of 2005 was enacted by the Indian Parliament in response to this reality, with the goal
of ensuring that the government is open, honest, accountable, and responsible. This article makes an effort to draw
attention to the RTI Act's fundamental principles, the link between the RTI Act and good governance, and the problems
surrounding the RTI Act. In its last section, the article offers some fundamental suggestions for the effective operation
of the RTI Act. An effort has also been made to differentiate between developed countries' RTI laws and those of India.
